Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Fast, Reliable Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Across New Hope

A chimney sweep in New Hope typically runs $189 to $329 for a standard cleaning with a Level 1 inspection, and most jobs are finished in under two hours. If you’re on River Road, in the borough core, or up toward Solebury Mountain, we know the houses and we know what’s inside those chimneys. Wendell Pike started Top Hat Chimney in 1999, and the same crew that answers your call is the one that shows up at your door. Why Top Hat Chimney Is New Hope’s Preferred Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Company

New Hope isn’t a tract-home town. The chimneys here were built before building codes, before clay tile liners, and in plenty of cases before Pennsylvania was a state. That means the sweep who shows up has to know the difference between historic rubble-stone work and a 1980s brick rebuild, and has to treat each one differently. Wendell has been working New Hope chimneys long enough that he can usually tell what’s inside a flue before the ladder goes up.

Homeowners here tend to ask around before they hire. That suits us fine. Our work is backed by the 90-Day Done Right Promise, stamped on every job in writing: if it isn’t right, one call brings Wendell back at no additional cost. Our Chimney Cleaning & Sweep crews are background-checked, uniformed, and give you a real arrival window. If that window slips, we call. And the price you get before work starts is the price on the invoice.

Ask anyone along Bridge Street or down by the canal. Top Hat has been the name passed between neighbors for years.

Our Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Services in New Hope

Level 1 Inspection

A Level 1 inspection is the standard check that should happen with every annual sweep. We confirm the flue is clear, the damper works, and there’s no obvious damage to the firebox or cap. In New Hope, where so many homes have multiple flues in shared chimney masses, this baseline check catches the problems you can see from the hearth. It does not catch what’s hidden between flues, which is why we recommend a camera scan on older homes.

Level 1 Inspection

Level 2 Inspection

A Level 2 inspection sends a camera through the flue and gives you footage you can watch with us. For New Hope’s pre-Civil War fieldstone and brick stacks, this is the only way to find breaches between adjacent unlined flues that let smoke and carbon monoxide migrate into rooms where it shouldn’t be. Wendell has pulled cameras back from too many 1700s chimneys with visible gaps between flue channels, and the homeowner had no idea anything was wrong. You see the footage. You get a plain-English verdict. If no repair is needed, we say so.

Level 2 Inspection

Creosote Removal

First-degree creosote is a brush job. Third-degree is a glaze, and it’s a different animal. New Hope’s B&Bs and inns along the Delaware burn wood commercially from October through March, and we routinely see second-degree creosote buildup in a single season that would take a family home three or four years to produce. We remove it with a rotary whip when the buildup calls for it, and we never recommend a more aggressive cleaning than the masonry can handle. River humidity makes old mortar brittle. Aggressive cleaning makes it worse.

Creosote Removal

Soot Removal

Soot removal is usually part of a standard sweep, but older New Hope chimneys with shallow smoke chambers and historic narrow flues tend to pack soot into places a brush alone can miss. We clean the full path from firebox to cap, including the smoke shelf and damper assembly. Then we run a visual check. On unlined 18th-century stacks, that check often means the difference between a clean chimney and one that smokes back into the room on a humid day.

Trusted Brands We Service in New Hope

When a New Hope chimney does need a liner, cap, or crown repair, we work with brands we’ve trusted for years: DuraFlex for stainless liners, HeatShield for smoke chamber parging, and Copperfield for caps and dampers. We keep common parts stocked so a repair on an Olympia Chimney cap or a Famco dryer vent doesn’t sit waiting on a distributor. If you’ve got a quote from another company recommending a specific product, we’ll give you a free second opinion on it.

Common Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Problems We See in New Hope Homes

  • Hidden breaches between unlined flues. New Hope’s 18th- and 19th-century homes often stack multiple flues inside one chimney mass, and the original mortar between them fails over time. A brush-only cleaning won’t find it. A camera will.
  • Spalled crowns and cracked caps from river humidity. The Delaware River channel sits right against the borough, and the persistent moisture works into old mortar joints. Freeze-thaw cycles through Bucks County winters pop the surface right off the crown.
  • Commercial creosote loads in B&B and inn fireplaces. A fireplace burned daily from October through March builds up creosote at three to four times the rate of a residential fireplace. An annual sweep is the floor, not the ceiling, for these properties.
  • Historic unlined flues with no modern liner. Many of New Hope’s oldest chimneys never had a clay tile liner installed. That’s not automatically a fire hazard, but it changes what kind of cleaning is safe and makes regular camera inspection more important, not less.

Pricing for Chimney Cleaning & Sweep in New Hope, PA

A standard chimney cleaning and Level 1 inspection in New Hope runs $189 to $329 depending on chimney height, roof pitch, and how much creosote has accumulated. A Level 2 camera inspection adds $149 to $249, and it’s the single best money you can spend on an older New Hope home before you light the first fire of the season. Creosote removal with a rotary whip, when a standard brush isn’t enough, runs $259 to $399. Crown repair, when river humidity has spalled the masonry, typically falls between $450 and $900. Every quote is given before work starts, in writing, and the number doesn’t change at the door. Seniors and veterans always get 10% off.
